Description: The artists are inspired by personal journeys, whether to their country of origin or interpersonal quests. Glimpses of history and personal narratives merge in two dimensions using watercolors, acrylics, mixed media and photography. Featuring artists: Frank Boccio, Paula Brooks, Sydney Buford, Edward Diodato, Adam Felderman, Elvin Flores, DaShawn Long, Javed Ryner and John Tursi. The opening reception of JOURNEYS, an art exhibition featuring the works of Bonnie Astor and Queens Community Artists is Saturday evening, May 4th from 7-10 p.m. at The Local NYC, 1302 44 Avenue, Long Island City.

Description: TALK BACK centers the lives and leadership of disabled artists and organizers, asserting that deep-rooted cultural changes must be made within the art world to become more inclusive and accessible. TALK BACK believes that disability must be included in conversations about diversity. One part of affecting change in the art world is by placing disabled artists and organizers in positions of influence within the arts to effect change from within. Please join us for workshops, performances, gatherings, spoken word, screenings, visual arts, video, sound works, DIY, panels, activism, books, installations, zines, artist talks, performance lectures, discussions and celebrations.

Description: During the LIC Arts Open Random Access Music’s annual festival, The Queens New Music Festival takes place at The Secret Theatre. This festival, which was first produced in 2012, is an annual event that brings new music front and center into Queens. Each year, RAM invites ensembles to participate and accepts dozens of concert proposals from various artists. RAM then selects and curates the proposals, and invites other ensembles, to create a 5-day festival celebrating the diversity of styles and voices in new music today.

Description: The Secret Theatre and Queens New Music Festival join forces to host a launch event for the 9th Annual LIC Arts Open. The event starts at 6 pm with a free piano recital from Kathleen Supové, piano. Following this special event, we will have music from LIC singer-songwriter Lauren Elder and Live Jazz from Martin Kelly’s Affinity Trio. Come and enjoy free drinks and snacks and mingle with friends. Celebrate!!

Description: The staff of Bark Frameworks is excited to participate in the LIC Arts Open for the fifth consecutive year. “Unhinged” features works by Bark employees in a variety of media, ranging from sculpture to photography to painting. Founded in 1969, Bark Frameworks designs and produces frames for contemporary and modern art, and has been based in LIC for 20 years. Now an employee-owned business, our team is comprised of highly skilled craftspeople, many of whom are practicing artists themselves.

Description: LIC Arts Pop Up 2019 exhibition open May 15-19, 24-26 is a coming together of two established art organization comprised of h=multimedia and multi discipline women artists. Visitor will be invited experience aside array of artistic styles encompassing the history of 20th century painting to avant-garde sculptural constructions and everything in between. The May 18th artist reception will feature an established music member performing cabaret songs.
