Artist Statement:
This collection of recent oil paintings is an exploration of surface. It is a catalogue of elements presented in a metaphysical dimension. In free fall, abandoned or suspended, the subjects create almost illegible compositions. Emptied of their original purpose, they tend towards abstraction. The narrative aspect in some of the works relates to concepts of disappearance and abandonment. References to the classical Masters are evident, but the original subjects have all but vanished, leaving behind an empty shell of accessories in which the living element is no longer part of the conversation. A religion of relics without Saints, where only matter matters.
