As a mixed media artist who loves sculpture, drawing, photography and figuring how things work. Her most recent work is inspired by graffiti. In these large-scale metal pieces, she abstracts and augments her photographs of found graffiti while preserving the gesture, and spirit. These works involve laser cutting that are enhanced by neon or LED lighting. The layering of print elements and mixing of media and surface allows the graffiti to function as a sort of extended collage. In most of her work she often utilizes her iconic people symbols in contexts ranging from classical poses to driving in a convertible reminiscent of childhood road trips, Mattingly reminds us to laugh and not take ourselves too seriously.
