Artist Bio:
Sheila Ross was born in Canada, is married to a Turk and recently became a naturalized American citizen. While she has ties to those aforementioned nations, she has lived in New York city since 1995. She has a BFA from the University of Western Ontario and an MFA from New York University. Her work has been included in solo and group exhibitions in Canada and the US at Dam Stulhtrager gallery, Socrates Sculpture Park, Islip Art Museum, Workspace and Aljira. Ross also collaborates with another Canadian artist on Yurt City, an ongoing collaborative installation project conceived of in 2006, which since then has been installed in more than seven venues in New York State, including at art sites gallery in Riverhead in 2009 and 2010 and as part of two International traveling exhibitions in Rotterdam and Memphis. Initially trained as a painter, Ross has also been engaged in making sculpture for more than two decades. She also began seriously working in clay, making both functional pottery and ceramic sculpture about 12 years ago. Often similar and unifying iconography and motifs appear in all the forms in which Ross works.
