Artist Bio:
After practicing corporate law for 14 years, Katie decided instead to pursue her dream of being a full time artist. She has devoted herself to that journey and has been creating ceramic sculptures for the last decade.

Having grown up in both Asia and New York, Katie is influenced by artistic traditions both East and West - the nuances of Chinese ink, the clean lines of Brancusi, the versatility of Noguchi, and the colors of Monet. Her sculptures draw us to experience the layers, dimensionality and textures of our space. She often installs her work in groupings to create a dialogue amongst the pieces as well as with the viewer - a visual conversation.

Katie's work has been exhibited in galleries and museums, including American Museum of Ceramic Art, CA, Islip Art Museum, NY, Denise Bibro Fine Art, Chelsea, NY, and Sara Japanese Pottery, NY. She has completed a major ceramic wall sculpture project for Aby Rosen, who personally selected her work for his Soho NYC hotel, 11 Howard.

Katie studied ceramics and sculpture at Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, 92nd Street Y School of the Arts, drawing and encaustics at the Art Students League of New York, metal welding, and sculpture at School of Visual Arts. She was also a Fellow of the Studio Immersion Project at Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop of the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts.

Artist Statement:
I am drawn to clay because I love how it feels, how it responds to my touch. It's like dancing with a partner, how we react to gestures and movements, both apparent or subtle. When I work on my pieces, a particular curve or a shadow may catch my attention and take us in a different direction. My work is ultimately about our relationships with each other and with the world around us.
