Artist Bio:
Nada Shalaby is a visual artist born in Cairo. Her research-based practice is situated between installation, performance, and social engagement. In her work, she is concerned with the interrogation of uncontested spaces, often involving constructs of language and cultural associations that exist in the public sphere. She holds a Masters degree in Middle East Studies from the American University in Cairo and an MFA in Art Theory and Practice from Northwestern University. She was a faculty member in the Department of the Arts at The American University in Cairo from 2011-2015. In 2015, she was awarded the Edes Foundation Prize for Emerging Arts. Nada is currently based in New York and works
between New York and Cairo.
