Artist Statement:
I designed a garden in the Catskills 30 years ago as an inspiration for my work ??? over time, I shifted most of my attention to still life. The transient nature of both the light and plants had become a frustration. Painting from silk flowers in my Long Island City studio is a return to my garden in a sense. The pieces can take a long time to develop, and it wouldn't be possible for an actual flower to survive these investigations.

My aim is to capture the light of any situation I paint: the time of day, the type of weather. There's the light I experience in the present, but there's also the internal light of the painting itself. A certain atmospheric logic develops, and colors organize themselves around that "key". Endless adjustments are made in order to create a deeply satisfying unity. I want that unity to have the vivid reality of an irrational dream.
