Artist Statement:
NEW WORK ON PAPER
In my new works on paper, pastel has become the principal medium combined with charcoal, pencil and paint. This pastel ground offers a corresponding function to the watercolor effects in my canvases, creating an atmospheric space- a fluid, open and indeterminate field of play. However, in these present images a new dimensional framework shapes the borders; providing a measure by which the relationships between various markers or dynamic forces within the open space are traceable. It is a threshold space guided by signs of uncertain outcomes - a mystery awaiting arrival.

PAINTINGS
In my large-scale, primarily abstract, paintings I often depict an imaginary locale. To gain greater potency to my color, I treat acrylics like watercolor, making the most of its fluidity, transparency and luminosity. This painterly environment underpins my images where forms are abstract but allusive, hard-edge geometric shapes and linear elements providing a counterpoint to the softer topographical rhythms.

DRAWINGS
My works on paper are executed in charcoal, a medium I have explored extensively in combination with pastel, pencil and paint. Recently I have concentrated on a single (and singular) object -exploring the eccentricities of forms as they evolve through a process of layering.
