Artist Bio:
Jane Epperson is an abstract painter, collage, and assemblage artist who lives and works in Queens, New York.

She holds a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and an MFA from NYU, Tish School of the Arts in scenic and costume design. In addition to her own design work Off-Broadway and Regionally, Jane worked as primary studio assistant to influential scenic designers, James Noone on Broadway and John Conklin in the world of opera.

In 2019, she realized her dream to set up her own art practice and pursue her artistic ideas.

Artist Statement:
Jane's work is an exploration of the smallest universes around us- the nano world. Inspired by images obtained through SEM, Scanning Electron Microscopy, she makes connections from the micro to the macro. By drawing connections between these worlds, she strives to create a visual language describing the forces that hold matter together and creates a sense of life's hidden structures created by the mathematics of life.

The resulting Nano Dreams series is comprised of paintings made through the buildup of paper, fiber, tubing, clay, and sculpted foam relief. Some are enhanced by collaged additions of handmade paper and metal mesh to bring the individual universes to life.
