Artist Bio:
Kamiesha Garbadawala (b. 1977, Westmoreland, Jamaica) is a New York City-based Abstract Artist and graduate of The Parsons School of Design. As a mother, wife and artist, Garbadawala explores the emotions which ebb and flow amidst a backdrop of New York City ??? turning to the canvas in search of the security found in a world that is created and controlled by her own hand.

The former accessories designer, for brands including Polo Ralph Lauren and Henri Bendel, launched a celebrated line of handbags with Barneys before she was compelled by a set of personal tragedies to begin anew. Her creative passion has reemerged and flourishes as the energetic and gestural works resulting from meditative, stream-of-consciousness painting.

Previously exhibited as a part of SVA's Summer Residency and Open Studios, and Creative Mischief by the National Academy Museum, Garbadawala has garnered praise and awards from ArtSlant (Showcase Winner) as well as Bombay Sapphire (Artisan Series Semi-Finalist, "Eden"). She was selected for a solo exhibition in New York City to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and as a part of Arteponte's group exhibition at SCOPE, during Miami Art Week 2017. Garbadawala recently participated in Columbia University School of the Arts' Summer Painting Intensive Program in June 2018, and her work will be on view at Galleria Ca' d'Oro Chelsea from May 28th through the end of August 2018.

Artist Statement:
Kamiesha Garbadawala's work is an exploration of life experiences and conveyance of emotion through art. Turning personal trauma and loss into strength and power through self-examination, she forges impassioned compositions filled with complexity, nuance and gravity. Garbadawala employs paintbrush and palette knives on heavy body acrylic paint to create wide planes of color and broad strokes, the artist's hand in an uninhibited performance, having found a conduit for expression within opaque layers gently smoothed over negative space.
