Artist Statement:
For my figurative work I draw from life or remembered experiences. I use traditional media or a combination of traditional and digital. My abstract work is concerned with exploring mark-making and building an abstract vocabulary. What guides me aesthetically is the tension of awkward and sophisticated, spontaneous and deliberate, organic and geometric marks. Some pieces evoke land/seascapes, others are more purely abstract. In some, monsters and other alien beings supply an emotional charge and immediacy different from the other more contemplative abstract pieces. Mixed media includes oil and chalk pastel, pencil, ink and ink washes, magic marker.
