She attended Cornell University for three years, working toward a BFA, participated in the summer program at the New York Studio School following her sophomore year, and graduated from Hunter College with a BA in fine art. She has exhibited her work in numerous shows and venues. She received an MA in Illustration from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 2010. Her illustration website is: http://amygellerillustration.com/index.html. Artist Statement: I create art in a range of media. In my recent works on paper I layer acrylic paint and then scrap and scratch away paint on the surface while it's wet. Pieces of colored and printed papers are collaged on with matte medium. Areas on the paper are sectioned off with painter's tape and within those areas I add pastel and paint. I then remove the tape. I combine spontaneous, lyrical mark-making with straight-edged shapes. When I succeed the result is a lively abstract composition. Titling my work is an enjoyable challenge. I study the image and see what feelings, memories and references it invokes.
