Artist Statement:
Mask is an object that is at once concrete and elusive. It conceals our foremost importance, disregarding and distorting our familiar self. It portrays instead an animated being that the wearer must comply for it does not accept mundane voice protesting original identity. A mask has such a presence, materiality and solidity that any enigmatic can become believable whether it's a hero, a deceased, or a mystical messenger. I paint, alter and play with masks to a degree that they no longer are recognizable cultural speaker, but a representor of my hidden unverbalized narratives.
