Anastasiya Gutnik came to the United States from Sverdlovsk, Russia at a young age and her influences are strongly tied to her early immersion in nature. Her attraction to the possibilities of materiality, texture, and process is reflected in her work. Personal objects make their way into her art as the foundation for intimately curated tiny worlds.
She attended the Maryland institute College of Art, where she combined painting and installation elements to push boundaries of what is considered painting. She first came to NYC to attend the New York Studio Residency Program in DUMBO and now calls Long Island City her studio home. She has received two art grant from FIGMENT NYC to build interactive sculpture pieces on Governor's Island, exhibited at the Rochester Contemporary Art Center, Gallery 151 and ICO gallery in Chelsea, A.I.R. Gallery in DUMBO, and many other venues nationally.
